Rawnet is hiring...

We are looking to hire a couple of new developers to join our team full time in our expanding and exciting agency environment based in Windsor.

Our projects involve a mix of bespoke application development, website builds and SaaS projects.

Our office is a 50/50 mix tech/creative with a great team atmosphere. We're based in a gorgeous converted mansion (http://www.newlodge.co.uk/) with Costa Coffee available in the cafè downstairs. A large TV and Xbox provide entertainment at lunch and after work, and Aeron chairs provide the comfort.

We employ a mixture of Agile and Waterfall methodologies to suit individual clients and developers. We are realistic about using the right tools to get the job done - if you're expecting 100% hotness and new tech, this isn't for you. Our project managers quickly learn how you work best and will provide all the support necessary to produce top quality products.

We are looking for self-motivated, driven developers with a passion for creating highly usable and accessible web applications. You must have at least 2 years experience working with Ruby on Rails and 4 years+ building database driven, dynamic websites.

You will also need the following:

  • Experience with other OO languages other than Ruby
  • Advanced CSS and XHTML/HTML5 knowledge, Sass and Haml a bonus
  • A passion for writing DRY code
  • Excellent knowledge of Javascript and jQuery
  • An understanding of common design patterns
  • Experience working in a Unix environment (iMacs all round)
  • Comfortable with git/svn (don't worry, we use git!)
  • A desire to learn
  • TDD/BDD experience, in particular experience with Shoulda and Cucumber is a bonus but not essential.

If you're interested please send your CV plus examples of projects you have worked on to paul@rawnet.com.

It's Live!

The final day

So it's the final day, and were all a little tired but a McDonalds breakfast of champions seems to have woken everyone up a little. (Well, everyone else anyway, I just fell asleep in my chair).

Last night ended up being a lot longer than planned after Java and Tomcat caused many sense of humors failures (silly enterprise software). But after some continued out bursts of swearing we eventually got there.

So after the debacle of Java last night this morning we had to setup Python for another dependancy, bringing the total number of languages to 4 across all dependancies and systems.

Ruby, Python, Java, Perl

Thankfully that was setup quite quickly with relative ease, so now it's a case of finishing off the deployment to the Linode server, and clean up the pages we have. Should be achievable in the 13 hours, 10 minutes and 42 seconds remaining.

Let's just hope the Formula 1 doesn't distra.. oh its almost 1pm! :D

It's all coming together

We're about to do our first push (sans frontend) to the live box and test that our backend systems are working correctly. Fingers crossed!

We're seeing some of the flash stuff that other teams have been working on and getting a little disheartened, but then we realise that our project is 80% backend work, easily. Hopefully it'll all be alright on the night!

Had a bit of a set back with the design this morning, went completely in the wrong direction and couldn't settle on a look and feel, back on track now - the above is the sign up form taking shape.
